Well, I'm moving again tomorrow, and as always, I'm kinda sad, but probably just because I'm moving tomorrow, and the event in itself is sad.

I don't know how many of you still read this, but, I'm still around, been working fulltime at a bakery, things slowed down, then part time, but it's not enough to pay the bills, so I'm moving in with my dad in Kitchener to try and find a fulltime job again.

On the upside, I get to live intown, I get my own room and bed again... It'll be nice.

Anyway, yeah. Who knows, I may update this more, but don't count on it.

Pendulum - In Silico A somewhat inebriated review by LinuxEater (part 1)

So, the internet has its ways of getting things out early, which includes Pendulum's new album. If you guys haven't heard of Pendulum, back in 2005, they released "Hold Your Colour", it was a critically acclaimed Drum and Bass record, receiving high praise for songs like "Slam", which was featured as the title track for the PS3 game "Motorstorm" and "Tarantula" which became a sort of anthem for some.

"In Silico" opens with the track "Showdown". Before listening to "In Silico", I had heard the "minimix2" that was released to Pendulum's website members. This was one of the songs in it, so it sounds somewhat familiar. The song opens with a winding up sound, then singing? Last time I listened to Pendulum, there wasn't singing. Drum and bass usually doesn’t have singing. But that's not really Pendulum anymore. The song begins to build up, as do the vocals, and it drops to drum and bass, mixed with some rock influence, and I have to say, it actually works rather well. The song is 5:28 long, and similar to other Pendulum songs, the beat is quite catchy and heavy at times.

"Different" is the second track, opening with drums and a sample, then with more vocals following. This song has interesting guitar, but the lyrics are somewhat weird, and not sure if I like them or not: "Show them just how deep it goes, don't mind the cameras, let them show your black heart baby". There's more, but I want to talk about the song. It's got some pretty good instrumental, not nearly as drum and bass-y as "Showdown", but it has some guitar, and interesting sound accompaniment. As the song progresses, the lyrics sound better, and match more with the style of the song, they're more melodic. In the final stretch of the song, they have guitar picking, it fits well.

"Propane Nightmares" is the next song. When I heard the single, "Propane", I was a bit worried, because it didn't really sound like Pendulum, they had a lot of singing, but I'm actually okay with it, this song is actually pretty awesome. It's got a great beat and the vocals fit well sometimes in the song, it'd probably be better if it were a harder drum and bass song instead of a rocky dnb song. It almost sounds like there's too much going on in the song.

Track 4 is called "Visions". It opens with some mechanized voice. The song is calmer than the other ones, it kind of reminds of Daft Punk with the voice, but sound isn't near Daft Punk. It's almost like Pendulum's attempt at a softer song, while still keeping the drum and bass core. The bridge in the song is well done, and sounds rather nice in the ear, it's not too loud, and feels right. The outro has lyrics, sung, without the mechanical filter, and echoes slightly as it leads out. Probably my favorite song so far.

"Midnight Runner" opens interestingly. It's all instrumental, and reminds me of "Hold Your Colour", it's a really heavy track, defiantly drum and bass inspired and bred. Sounds good. At 6:55, it's a long track, but it's amazing. The halfway mark has some interesting sounds going on, and works well. I think there is also some piano going on in the background. Around the 4:00, the track slows down and then comes back, in a more odd fashion then you'd think.
